Loud/Strange Noises

Have you discovered concerning noises coming from your heating system? If you have, then you want to call a professional HVAC technician right away. Any noise that isn’t the normal hum or gentle rattling of ductwork as temperatures fluctuate that you normally hear is cause for concern. This can include clunking, clicking as the system cycles off, banging, or heavy rattling. Pretty much anything you hear outside of the ordinary is a reason enough to call us for an inspection, at least.

Your System Is Short-Cycling

Short-cycling is the name of the process where your furnace cycles on and off in rapid succession instead of working in regular intervals. Your furnace should run for about 15 minutes at a time, 2-3 times an hour. Any more than this and if the cycles are less than 15 minutes means that the system is, in fact, short cycling, and never actually completing a full heating cycle or reaching the desired temperature setting on your thermostat.

It’s important to note here that if your indoor air quality has always been a little iffy, there’s a good chance you need to investigate the source, as something like an air cleaner or air filtration system may really benefit you. But if this is a new problem–say, you’ve noticed an unusual buildup of dust in your home–it could be a problem when your heating system. What may be happening is that dust and other debris have begun building up within your ductwork, so whenever your furnace or heat pump operates, it simply blows that debris right back into your indoor air. You may need professional duct cleaning to remedy this problem, or even duct repair if it’s ductwork damage that’s allowing this debris indoors.

You Can’t Get Warm!

Is your normal temperature setting on the thermostat just not cutting it anymore? Unless it’s unseasonably cold outside, you should be able to achieve comfort with a reasonable temperature setting around 70°F. If your heater just doesn’t seem to be keeping you warm, it could be a problem with the heating elements, ductwork damage, or even the thermostat. The best thing you can do is call on our team to investigate!
